PYARG expands sporting opportunities for Region Four youths
Young people along the East Bank Demerara and Linden-Soesdyke Highway are being encouraged to join a series of sporting activities being offered through the President’s Youth Award Republic of Guyana (PYARG) Medal of Service Programme.
The initiative aims to provide structured opportunities for young people to develop their skills while promoting teamwork, discipline, physical fitness and personal development.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, activities are open to young people between the ages of 12 and 20 and include football, cricket, volleyball and archery.
Sessions are being held throughout the week at several locations, including the Kuru Kururu Community Centre Ground, Eccles Playground, Grove Community Centre Ground, St Cuthbert’s Mission Playground, Swan Community Centre Ground, Waiakabra Playground, Kuru Kuru Training Centre and Farm Community Centre Ground.
Football accounts for several of the weekly sessions, while young people can also access cricket training at locations including St Cuthbert’s Mission, Swan and Farm.
Archery sessions are available at Kuru Kururu and Farm, while volleyball is offered at St Cuthbert’s Mission.
The programme is part of a wider expansion of youth development activities across the country.
Between 2021 and July 2026, approximately 15,510 young people were trained or participated in PYARG programmes.
In 2025 alone, more than 3,200 young people received training through PYARG, while the government has said youth engagement activities will continue to be expanded in 2026.
