Premier Oscar Mabuyane hosts Provincial Economic Stakeholder Engagement, 18 Aug
Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane will host a Provincial Economic Stakeholder Engagement, a high-level platform bringing together government, business, organised labour, investors, academia and civil society to discuss practical plans to move from economic development commitments to partnerships, investment and job creation.
The session will provide an opportunity for an open reflection on the province’s economic position and realities, with an emphasis on identifying barriers constraining investment, business growth and job creation as well as opportunities that can inspire improved economic activity. Additionally, the provincial government will use this platform to provide an update on progress made in implementing the Provincial Economic Development Strategy and highlight on the gains achieved across the sectors.
The province will also recognise the fundamental and universal challenges affecting communities, constraining economic development, and restricting the implementation of catalytic projects and inclusive growth across the province. A variety of speakers will lead the discussions providing an independent perspective on the provincial economic the discussions are expected place a particular emphasis on practical solutions in driving economic change, rather than focusing solely on analysing existing challenges.
The plaftform will be a build up to the 7th Eastern Cape Export Symposium and Exhibition scheduled for the 19–21 August 2026, at the East London International Convention Centre, also aimed at strengthening the export ecosystem within the province while fostering meaningful connections between local businesses and international markets.
Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane said strengthening the provincial economy remains central to the government’s efforts to create employment and improve livelihoods. “The latest employment figures remind us that while the province has made progress in job creation, we must significantly accelerate the pace of economic growth if we are to absorb more people into the economy. We need to turn our economic assets, investment opportunities and export potential into productive activity, stronger businesses and sustainable jobs” Mabuyane said.
“Our focus is to build an economy that is more competitive, investment-ready and connected to regional and international markets. We want to see stronger partnerships between government and the private sector, increased investment in productive sectors, greater participation by Eastern Cape businesses in global value chains and, ultimately, more employment opportunities for our people,” Mabuyane added.
