CONCORD, N.H. — Today, NHGOP Chairman Scott Maltzie issued the following statement after the Democratic National Committee voted to adopt a new presidential primary calendar for 2028 that places South Carolina ahead of New Hampshire:
“The Democrats can vote on whatever they’d like, but New Hampshire will follow New Hampshire law, which requires our state to hold the first-in-the-nation presidential primary,” said NHGOP Chairman Scott Maltzie.
“It is disgraceful that national Democrats would threaten their own candidates with sanctions and fines for participating in our primary, ultimately disenfranchising tens of thousands of New Hampshire voters. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Democratic National Committee simply does not care about them.”
“New Hampshire voters expect presidential candidates to meet them face-to-face, answer their questions, and earn their support. They should not be expected to simply accept million-dollar advertising campaigns in place of real engagement.”
“The New Hampshire Republican delegation worked hard to secure our first-in-the-nation primary for 2028, and we have already begun the work of protecting it for 2032 and beyond. While Republicans are fighting to preserve New Hampshire’s historic role in the presidential nominating process, Democrats have chosen to abandon it.”
“It is also disappointing that members of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation waited until after the votes were taken to speak up. Leadership means fighting before the decision is made, not objecting after the outcome is already decided.”
“New Hampshire voters have long memories. They will remember who stood up for our state, and who failed to do so, when they go to the polls in November.”
