In Case You Missed It, the Union Leader reported on yesterday’s New Hampshire Democratic Party press conference where local leaders blasted John Sununu and Scott Brown’s records that show they “will cut health care for senior citizens and the middle class if voters return either of them to Capitol Hill this fall.”

House Democratic Leader Alexis Simpson pointed out that “Sununu helped lead a failed fight to create a privatization option to Social Security” and “Brown voted to cut more than $600 million in funding to the Social Security Administration” while they each were in office. Representative Mary Jane Wallner highlighted how Sununu “once cast a deciding vote to block passage of legislation to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices with seniors.”

Small business owner and candidate for Grafton County Register of Deeds Brie Choate explained why “she and her husband had to cancel their health care coverage after Congress failed to extend the expanded tax credits under the Affordable Care Act” and her and her husband’s health insurance premiums skyrocketed by $600 per month.

A group of Democratic leaders contend that former U.S. Sens. John E. Sununu and Scott Brown, both R-N.H., will cut health care for senior citizens and the middle class if voters return either of them to Capitol Hill this fall.
House Democratic Leader Alexis Simpson of Exeter said while serving in the Senate 20 years ago, Sununu helped lead a failed fight to create a privatization option to Social Security.
And then-Sen. Brown voted to cut more than $600 million in funding to the Social Security Administration, she claimed.
Simpson spoke at a press conference three days before the 91st anniversary of the Social Security Act and a few weeks after Medicare and Medicaid turned 61 years old.
“The anniversaries remind us that we can’t afford to take them for granted. Democrats have built these programs and Democrats have defended them over and over again,” Simpson said.
[...] Brie Choate of Haverhill, the Democratic candidate for Grafton County register of deeds, said she and her husband had to cancel their health care coverage after Congress failed to extend the expanded tax credits under the Affordable Care Act.
The couple owns a car repair business in town and ending the credit would have cost them $600 more a month.
“Tens of thousands of Granite Staters saw their insurance premiums skyrocket just like us,” Choate said. “Faced with an impossible budget to balance, families like ours had to decide whether to enroll in a bare minimum plan for medical catastrophe or forego health insurance altogether.”
Brown and Sununu supported the GOP decision backed by President Donald Trump to let the expanded credits expire.
Rep. Mary Jane Wallner, D-Concord, is the longest- serving House member, now in her 23rd term.
Wallner said Sununu once cast a deciding vote to block passage of legislation to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices with seniors.
In 2022, Congress approved, and then-President Joe Biden signed, legislation to negotiate over a certain list of high-cost drugs, the first 10 taking effect in January.
“With a track record like that, it’s imperative that John Sununu never return to the U.S. Senate,” Wallner said.
