Russia Warns U.S.-Iran Strike Exchange Risks Dangerous Escalation

(MENAFN) Moscow raised alarm Wednesday over the latest round of direct strikes between Washington and Tehran in the Persian Gulf, cautioning that the escalating exchange threatens to push the region into a far more dangerous military and political crisis.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova urged all parties involved to step back from the brink, calling on them to halt any actions that could further inflame tensions or derail ongoing diplomatic efforts to bring the situation under control.

Zakharova made clear that Russia views attacks on civilian infrastructure as categorically unacceptable, and reaffirmed Moscow's support for the Arab states of the Persian Gulf in upholding their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The spokeswoman added that Russia remains hopeful that active U.S.-Iran negotiations will ultimately pave the way toward lasting stability across the Middle East.

Resolving regional disputes, Zakharova stressed, must be pursued through political and diplomatic channels in full accordance with international law — and Russia, she said, stands prepared to play a constructive role in that process.
