Trump Says US Is Holding “Very Good Conversations” With Iran
“We have very good conversations going on. It's working out very well. They got a little cute, as they have been doing for 47 years. Nobody ever took them on. We took them on,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
He also made sharp comments about Iran’s military capabilities, stating, “They have no navy, they have no air force, they have no leaders. They have no nothing. Actually … it is regime change. You call that enforced regime change, but we're talking to them,” while adding, “We're talking to them … we're taking a tough stand.”
Trump said further updates on the negotiations could come soon. “We'll have some information by the end of the day,” he said regarding the ongoing discussions with Iran.
After delivering his remarks, the president did not take questions about the Iran conflict, ongoing negotiations, or developments related to the Strait of Hormuz.
The comments come amid heightened tensions following military escalations that began on Feb. 28 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Tehran responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and other regional states hosting US forces.
Hostilities have been paused since April 8 after a two-week ceasefire mediated by Pakistan.
Diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran have continued, including talks held in Pakistan last weekend and preparations for another round of discussions in Islamabad.
In a separate development, Trump also signed an executive order directing the US Food and Drug Administration “to expedite their review of certain psychedelics already designated as breakthrough therapy drugs.”
