Trump Advises Kurds Against Joining War with Iran

(MENAFN) Donald Trump said Saturday that he has instructed Kurdish forces not to engage in the ongoing conflict with Iran, citing concerns that their involvement could further complicate the situation, according to reports.

In recent days, US and Israeli media indicated that the American administration has been in contact with Kurdish armed groups in Iraq and providing support in operations against Tehran.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling to Miami, Trump emphasized that the United States maintains positive relations with the Kurds but has advised them to avoid participating in the war.

“We’re very friendly with the Kurds, as you know, but we don’t want to make the war any more complex than it already is,” he said.

He added that, despite the Kurds’ willingness to fight, he explicitly told them not to take part.

“I don’t want the Kurds going in. I don’t want to see the Kurds get hurt, get killed,” Trump said.

The president suggested that the conflict could significantly alter Iran’s future, noting that the country’s borders might change once the fighting concludes.

“That I can’t tell you. Probably not,” he said when asked whether Iran’s current borders would remain intact.

Trump also indicated that Washington may seek political changes in Tehran, stating that the US wants “to pick a president that’s not leading them into war.”

He further claimed that American strikes had severely disrupted Iran’s leadership structure.

“We got rid of the top leadership, and we got rid of the second level of leadership,” Trump said, adding that Iran is now operating under its “third or fourth level of leadership.”

While he did not order the deployment of ground troops at present, Trump suggested that US forces could be sent later to secure enriched uranium at Iranian nuclear sites.

“At some point, maybe we will, that would be a great thing, but right now we’re just decimating them,” he said.
