Russia Strongly Denounces Deadly Mosque Attack in Islamabad

(MENAFN) The Russian Embassy in Pakistan strongly condemned a deadly attack on a mosque in Islamabad on Friday, describing it as a “heinous terrorist attack” that struck during Friday prayers.

“Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the victims. We wish a speedy recovery to all those injured,” the embassy said in an official statement, according to reports.

Other countries, including Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, also denounced the suicide bombing and expressed condolences to the people of Pakistan.

Pakistani authorities reported that at least 31 people were killed and more than 169 others injured in the attack. The assailant detonated explosives when confronted by security forces at Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra, a Shia Muslim place of worship in the Shehzad Town area.

Mosharraf Zaidi, spokesman for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, blamed India for the attack, saying, “India's terrorist proxies will neither slow down economic recovery, nor divide Pakistani hearts, nor undermine Pakistan's growing diplomatic capital,” according to reports. New Delhi has not responded to Islamabad’s allegations.
