US House Approves Ending Government Shutdown
Members of the House voted 222-209 in favor of the Senate amendment to H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026.
Following the vote, the legislation will proceed to President Donald Trump’s desk to be signed into law.
Earlier this week, the Senate passed a vote of 60-40 to move forward with a government funding bill that had originally been approved by the House.
This bill will be modified to extend federal funding through Jan. 30 and will include three comprehensive appropriations measures for the year.
The shutdown, which started on Oct. 1, resulted from a deadlock over federal spending priorities.
As a consequence, thousands of federal employees have been furloughed or required to work without pay, while numerous government services have been reduced or halted.
