Spy director states Russia can’t afford to be weak

(MENAFN) Sergey Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), emphasized that Russia plays a crucial role in maintaining security across Eurasia and cannot afford to be weak. Speaking at an international security conference in Moscow on Wednesday, Naryshkin stated that Russia must not abandon its values or chase what he called the illusion of totalitarian liberalism and globalism.

He underscored that history shows the security of Eurasia—and ultimately the entire world—depends on Russia’s strength and resolve.

The 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues brought together delegates from over 100 countries, including members of the Global South and East, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, along with representatives of more than 20 international bodies.

A central topic of the conference was developing a new, fairer security architecture that is equal and indivisible, aligned with today’s geopolitical realities.

Last month, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee, highlighted Russia’s leadership in promoting a new international relations model based on multipolarity and mutual respect, aiming to establish a stable and safe global security framework.

Ivan Timofeev, head of the Russian International Affairs Council, argued that the traditional European collective security system is no longer effective and predicted it will soon be replaced by a broader Eurasian security model.
