X files lawsuit against Indian government
The legal challenge targets what X describes as a “censorship portal,” a system allegedly set up by Indian authorities that allows government agencies, state officials, and local police to issue extensive content removal requests. The platform argues that this mechanism violates India’s constitution and the Information Technology Act, claiming it leads to the unlawful suppression of lawful information.
The legal filing noted, “This will result in significant censorship and unlawful blocking of lawful information on the X platform, which will prejudice X and detrimentally impact its business.”
The lawsuit comes at a critical time for both Musk and India. Musk has been actively seeking to expand his business interests in the country, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi faces mounting pressure from US President Donald Trump on trade and immigration matters.
