Algeria commits to energy security, regional collaboration
(MENAFN) Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated Algeria's dedication to energy security and regional collaboration during a meeting with media representatives on Saturday. He outlined strategies to increase gas production, support African economies, and address Europe's energy requirements.
A key focus was the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), a 4,000-kilometer project designed to transport 20-30 billion cubic meters of gas annually from Nigeria to Europe via Algeria.
Tebboune emphasized that the pipeline would strengthen pan-African ties, enabling Niger and Mali to leverage their hydrocarbon resources and boost their economies.
He stated, "This project will reinforce pan-Africanism and help Niger and Mali benefit from the gas pipeline, allowing them to capitalize on their own hydrocarbon production. This will serve our economies as Africans while also helping meet Europe's increasing energy demands."
Additionally, Tebboune revealed plans to export hydrogen energy to Germany and Italy using Algeria's existing pipeline infrastructure connected to Italy. He highlighted Algeria's transition from crude oil dependency to a more sustainable energy mix, including natural gas, hydrogen, and renewable energy.
"Our focus is not just on oil barrels but on a balanced and sustainable energy strategy," he added.
