Indonesia’s Chinese tourist levels soar, targets 2 mn visitors this year
(MENAFN) Indonesia is hopeful of soon matching its pre-pandemic peak in Chinese tourist arrivals, as the number of visitors from China continues to rise steadily.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia recorded its highest number of Chinese tourists in 2018, with 2,139,161 million visitors. Although the pandemic caused a sharp decline, the country has seen a strong recovery, with Chinese tourist numbers climbing to 787,924 in 2023 and further increasing to 1,198,582 in 2024.
This upward trend is supported by strong bilateral ties and growing cooperation between China and Indonesia across various sectors, including tourism. Both nations have actively worked together through exhibitions, promotional campaigns, and other initiatives to encourage travel and strengthen tourism ties.
Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun, expressed optimism about reaching a target of 2 million Chinese tourists this year. He highlighted the growing number of direct flights between the both nations as a key factor in achieving this goal. With these developments, Indonesia is well-positioned to reclaim its status as a top destination for Chinese travelers.
